Tonight, I laid back and went to see some comedy. My incredibly talented friend Donnell Williams is part of a troupe called “Barrel of Monkeys” which doubles as a community service organization.
The actors in Barrel of Monkeys travel to 32 Chicago public schools and teach elementary students about creative writing. This helps to develop the ingenuity and imagination of young people in a time when funding for arts is drying up faster than the Dead Sea.
They then take these skits and perform them at the Neo-Futurist Theater every Monday night. Tonight, there was a wild array of entertainment, from a techno-inspired Hello Kitty and Tinkerbell party to a car dealership that experiences success only when it knocks the prices of new cars down to $100.
