I spent the night all alone in a big park by Lake Cochumo, in the San Marcos Pass above Santa Barbara. It’s a huge park, and is gorgeous, but there was not a soul there, just me and the rangers by the road.
And all night, there was this “bom bom bom” sound coming from the dam on the lake, where there were huge lights. I thought I was in “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” It sounded like giant tennis balls bouncing around on pavement. It was very hard to sleep. Maybe that’s why no one was there.
But it was so beautiful in the morning. I spent hours just watching bluebirds flitter and pheasants run about. So calm, and such a view!
